    Compubox Accuracy...

Anybody know how good Compubox is? For example, the person who does it in real-time for HBO, how accurate is he? Do you personally pay attention to it?

Its controlled by people so it is only as good as the average sober fan who was paying attention.

I think it is a fairly good estimate.

They (try to, at least) count every punch that gives even the most transparent appearance of landing, so it's numbers are always wildly exaggerated. About the only good thing is that the numbers are wildly exaggerated for both fighters, so it's a reasonably accurate representation of who threw more of what, and yes, even who landed more. Check out the numbers for the Hopkins/Calzaghe fight, if you want an idea. Hopkins probably landed 6 punches throughout the entire fight, but it shows him landing...slightly more. I think it showed him landing something like 120 punches. Hell, I don't even know if he threw that many, but even if he did, he certainly didn't land that many.

I've seen stats after the fight and thought no way are those right. They're just normal people and make mistakes too. It can be a good estimate and can also be a bit off.

The only accurate #'s are the #'s thrown and type of punch (power vs jab). For accuracy it's not even worth looking at.

I don't trust it sometimes. I have seen fights where my guys won that the numbers seemed way off and that goes both ways. Then I see it the same sometimes as well. But, i don't put alot of stock in it really.

i pay attention to the number of punches thrown more than the landed category. i can imagine a lot of blocked punches counting towards the "punches landed" total.
