    Roy Jones - What if....

Lets forget about the Calzahge fight for a minute. Not being himself, one eye for a large portion of the fight, something was off.

If Roy now beats Green, the winner of Johnson/Dawson, and beats Bhop, what happens to his legacy. What if he actually does get back to the top. Maybe even throw in Adamek. I would love to throw Tarver in that mix too. I realize this is a loooooooooooonnnnngggg shot to happen, he would be the underdog in every fight except for Green.

i think it would shock the entire boxing world...maybe even get real notice from ESPN and the news in general. and recently boxing gets very little attention outside the actual sport itself unless its an oscar de la hoya, floyd mayweather, pacman, etc.

if roy jones was able to climb even within arms reach of the top i think he would become a star of the media (not just the sport).

do i think its possible? sure it is. i think he's one of those guys like Bhop or Holyfield who are really special and able to still perform and compete at a very high level even as he ages. fighters (or any type of athlete really) rarely are able to rise to the top in the closing years of their career (35 and up yrs old).

I'd say he'd be an underdog in many of the fights just because they'd factor in his age.

With Roy Jones Jr already having cemented his legacy (at least in my opinion) this is the perfect time for him to really gun for the top because no matter who he could end up losing to it wont hurt his legacy or career. he's kind of in the position hopkins was going into the pavlik fight and the position holyfield was in going into his fight overseas with a top russian heavyweight.

and that is all your fans root for you but they all know better than to hold it against you if you lose and almost get prepared to see that before tuning in.

for example...i personally didnt think hopkins would beat pavlik going in. i thought he'd lose a decision as i expected the age gap to really work for pavlik the later it got into the fight. but as we all know what happened i was really impressed.

basically what im trying to say is i really hope rjj does make a run for the top spot in the sport...he's still got enough natural talent/skill left combined with all the knowledge/experience he has that its not an unrealistic thought.

the only thing he's got against him is time. if he wants to get to the top he's going to have to get busy really soon with taking on the fighters he needs to earn that spot back.

i will be watching and rooting for him the whole way.
