Melligan had the best performance on that card - looked very, very impressive.

Too short for a welter, good luck to him tho.

If Melligen takes on Michel Rosales next and wins, it shall be impressive. Rosales recently fought three undefeated fighters; won 1, lost 2. He inflicted Luis Uribe's first loss a couple of months ago. Rosales is a bigger puncher than Zepeda and, at close to 6 feet, is a lot taller than both Zepeda and Melligen. The Uribe fight was even at LightMiddleweight.

IF a meeting can be arranged some time early next year, another good test (perhaps, even a much better test) for Melligen is another Mexican named Jesus Soto Karass, a Rafael Concepcion type of fighter who has fought as LightMiddleweight a number of times in the past. He is not as big a puncher as Rosales, but he TKO'd the then undefeated Rosales with his stubborn determination (like Concepcion did to AJBanal). Karass has not lost since conceding a UD to Yuri Foreman over three years ago. He retired former IBF LightWelter champ Vince Philipps in mid-2006 in a non-title fight at Welterweight. Late last year, he stopped David Estrada at the Hard Rock in Vegas. I'm not sure, but I do believe that Karass has never visited the canvass. Ever.

Many consider Karras, even with his three losses, as top 20 in the world at Welterweight and the WBC has him at #7, which means the alphabet body rates him higher than several former champs, among them, Zab Judah, Baldomir, Ricardo Torres and Carlos Quintana.

If Melligen wins over Karass, his ratings will certainly skyrocket and it shall be a giant leap towards a title try.

But, if I were to have my way with Melligen's career, I'd rather that he goes back to LightWelter, have a higher profile engagement such as facing Junior Witter and, if successful, move on to higher levels from there.

he would take a beating from karass and im not even sure he could thru with rosales who is decent but nothing especial. if he beats him he might have potential because the only two to beat rosales are still undefeated and have a lot of potential..

Like I said, Karass will be a very, very serious test that Melligen's management may take on early to middle of next year after a couple more bouts against foes better than Zepeda. Early to middle of next year is a good target date, I think. It's better that Melligen be made to prove his mettle early.

I mentioned Rosales because his name is mentioned by the thread starter (Ronnie Nathanielsz's article) as Melligen's next probable. From there my thoughts led to Karass for two reasons: (1) Karass is the guy who handed Rosales his first loss and (2) Karass is an unrelenting force, a good deal like Rafael Concepcion who dealt Melligen's stablemate, AJ Banal, his first loss. I find it interesting to see how Melligen can deal with such type, i.e., shall he go the way of Banal, or, will he handle it well. If he does the latter, he'll prove much and that proof may be considered good argument in favor of giving him a title crack.

But then, like I said in my earlier post, if I had any say in Melligen's career (which I don't), I'd rather that he go back to JuniorWelter, unless he can't make weight there anymore. Most Welterweights in the top 20 are just too tall for him and many of them have and/or have had engagements at LightMiddle.

He's got power alright, I give him that! but very predictable 1-2 jab-straight... 1-2 hook-straight.. typical of ALA Gym fighters like Z Gorres, AJ Banal, et al.

i didn't see the expected results coming off of a Mayweather training camp!!

Isn't babies must learn how to crawl b4 it can even walk? And isn't it PBF took sometime before he can even boxed the way he is boxing right now? i mean b4 he retired? This guy is still young in his boxing career and u expected him to do some fancy & matured boxing movements... give him a break dude!
