Does Dawson need RJJs scalp?

Dawson is universally recognized as the lineal lt hw champ but even after beating Tarver 2x and Johnson does he need to beat RJJ for fans to jump onboard? Is this the same situation as Lewis where some wouldn't recognize until he beat Tyson.

Calzaghe was linear but retired after beating a prime Roy. The line was broken but Dawson is clearly the best at lt hw and he beat world beltholders that once held the undisputed title so the line starts again with him. The only one with any claim to dispute him is Hopkins but no way he takes the huge risk of losing to Dawson.
