First of all, I want to say that for this weekend not having a BIG fight, it was definitely a fun weekened to watch. Lots of crazy ****.
Headbutt knockouts. Knockouts after the bell. Tougher fights then expected. Past prime legends looking fresh as a daisy. Fun weekend of fights.
- Nonito Donaire won and lost this weekend, in some ways. In some ways, he wasn't able to handle a guy that Arce had already stopped and had less then 15 wins to his credit. However, whatever he MAY have lost with a slightly less-than impressive win, he made up for with his fighting spirit. There is NO reason he should have fought a guy who divisions north of the contracted one. Other then the fact that Nonito is a TRUE fighter. Props to him, my respect for him goes even HIGHER.
- I hope Vivian Harris is OKay. He's a solid fighter who just needs to stay focused.
- Roy Jones has earned my respect with every fight he takes that he doesn't have to. I'm a statistical kind of guy. I think you need to quit while it makes sense. Just the way I think. But, there's something that is honestly impressive about a guy who many said didn't try hard enough to make the biggest fights happen, beginning to take the risks he might not have taken before. It shows he, like Donaire, was a born fighter and nothing will change that. Props to him as well.
- Punching Luevano after the bell was the best thing that could hgave happened to Concepcion. He was clearly losing the fight and didn't even look like himself. That shot after the buzzer was what might become his saving grace. It shows that he could knock Luevano out if he had the chance and from the looks of the ACTUAL fight, it didn't look like Steven was going to give him that chance. So, in a sense, it allowed Bernabe to save face, still get the loss he seemed on his way to anyway, but walk away with bragging rights.
- About the punch itself, it was a solid shot, but it was a shot that Luevano didn't expect. He should have protected himself at all times, but people forget that means during the ACTUAL ROUNDS. If I'm in the ring after the fight and my opponent sucker punches me, you aren't supposed to say, "Hey, protect yourself at all times.' Don't be ******. Don't be foolish. True, this was in the heat of the action, but it was CLEARLY after the well. A SOLID 1.5 seconds passed and he swung. I don't think he meant to drop him or what have you, but it was the right call on the referees part.
As for those of you who think that Steven was acting...... shut your mouth, fools. He didn't see the punch coming, didn't expect it, that's why it was so effective.
- Jeff Lacy may need to start thinking about retiring.
That's all I got. You can share your thoughts or just call me an ******* now.
