Yeah, but the main criteria is clean, effective punching. Lets go over the fight and find the clean, effective shots landed, and then talk about who won that fight.

The only props I give Calzaghe after tonight's fight is to him destorying Lacy when he looked like he had potential....he was clearly never the same after his bout with Slappy....the Roy Jones fight not so much

Well Jones is getting in the ring and fighting, that's good. If some of the other LHW's actually were fighting more often (Dawson) and not taking a light year just to fight again, we wouldn't be talking about Jones.

LOL .. same old crap. You are totally ignoring the word "effective"; it has little to do with the quality of individual punches for their own sake.

Effective at what? Causing your opponent momentary discomfort? Marking his face? Nope. 'Effective' in this context means turning aggression or even, in exceptional cases, solid defence paired with good aggressive counter-punching into a means of dominating, and hence winning the fight.

And Hopkins simply didn't do that. If, in the opinion of the judges, Calzaghe's greater number of punches combined to be more effective in controlling the fight than B-Hop's fewer but 'cleaner' (on average) shots then they scored the round to Calzaghe. Or at least I hope they did. It was a very close fight, and as there is always variation of opinion on what constitues 'effective', 'aggression', etc, etc., an SD was not surprising, but all three scores were perfectly credible IMHO. Calzaghe was awarded the fight by the majority of judges (there are three for a reason), and that's the end of it.

I am a Hopkins fan but what sealed Hopkins doom in the calzaghe fight was when Bernard was crawling around on all fours faking a low blow and begging the ref to take a point away from Calslappy ...i don't know about anyone else but i found it cringe worthy to watch when such a tough guy like Hopkins would pull such an underhanded trick ...surely he didnt think that he was gonna win with **** like that ?
And then on top of that we had all that huggin and holding from bernard ...what was all that about ?...

co-sign, he didn't deserve to win that fight although it was very close, he was trying to steal the fight and it failed.

Calzaghe's performace against Jones was amazing. Roy still has some speed and good power; but outside the first two rounds he couldn't do anything to Cazalghe who was too fast and too unpredictable for Roy to handle. Even when he did catch him, Calzaghe has an excellent chin when he is warmed up and so there was no way in hell a KO was coming.

He literally humiliated Jones, literally humiliated him to the point of Lampley crying. Considering Calzaghe himself was what, nearly (or even) 37 at fight night it was an amazing thing to behold.

Sure, Jones wasn't prime but noone has beaten him like that before - it was far worse than against Tarver or Johnson IMO as he took a sustained beating for the last 10 rounds of that fight. Jones needs to retire.

Exactly!!!!!!!!!! Since when has constant clinching and throwing a low amount of punches equal to a win apart from the dirty tactics??
