Melligan Stops Zepeda In Four, Earns Tenth Straight Win

By Jake Donovan - Yet another rising junior welterweight is on the scene, as Filipino southpaw Mark Jason Melligan continues to impress on the Top Rank PPV circuit. His latest performance was a near-flawless one, easily handling Mexican journeyman Ernesto Zepeda in scoring a fourth-round stoppage Saturday night at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The bout served as the opening bout for the “Pinoy Power 2” pay-per-view telecast. Both fighters weighed in at the contracted limit of 137 lb.

Melligan controlled the action from the opening bell, with Zepeda only enjoying sprinkles of success in their welterweight prelim. Straight left hands were the difference throughout, particularly late in the opening round when the southpaw Melligan had Zepeda in trouble. [details]

Impressive performance Mark jason! though I think 4 to 5 more fights are needed for a title shot, at least you move forward closer to that aspiration! Keep up the good work Mark Jason!

By the way, wich is correct? they fought within the contracted limit of 145lbs as originally posted, or this one at 137lbs? If they fought under JWW weight division, then most probably at 137lbs..

Better than his usual win for Melligen. I think he's rated now in the top 50 in the world. He should have for his three "nexts", opponents rated in the top 30 and, if blessed with spectacular results in those, take on someone who had been to a world championship tiff...someone who, though a tad past his prime, can show Melligen how it is at the highest levels of competition.

      Congratulations, Mark Jason!
