3 reasons why you shouldn't miss Pinoy Power 2

Top Rank Promotion's explosive Pinoy Power 2 card is less than 24 hours away. It's the first ever Filipino themed major boxing card here in the US and to be shown live on Pay-per-View. The fight card will also be going head-to-head with a couple of other prominent fight cards in Roy Jones Jr.'s "Hook City" bout against Jeff Lacy over at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum in Biloxi, Mississippi and Strikeforce's monumental MMA card featuring Gina Carano vs. Cris "Cyborg" Santos for the first ever 145 female championship belt.

Certainly, Saturday's fights offer fans a variety of options and is definitely one of the more diverse fight nights of the year. In my perfect world, I'd walk in to a sports bar and order up "sisig" or some chicken wings and drown it with some Heinekens while watching all three fight cards on several big screen TVs. Sadly, such a place does not exist here in Indianapolis so for those of you who are pondering which card to order on Pay-per-View, let me give you 3 reasons why Pinoy Power 2 will be playing on my HDTV instead of two "hookers" and two women slug it out. (For those who don't know any better, by hookers I mean Roy Jones Jr. and Lacy as their card is conveniently dubbed "Hook City" attributing to their lethal hooks).

Gina Carano vs. Cris "Cyborg" Santos will be an interesting bout and on any given night, I would definitely check it out. I will have to TiVo this one however because as much as Carano is eye-candy and how women usually come out and steal shows on MMA cards everywhere I've gone to for the manner and which they just go at it, the card is pretty much top heavy, and same is the case for Jones-Lacy in my opinion. I have to admit though, Gina Carano on HDTV is a beautiful thing.
So here's 3 reasons why I am ordering Pinoy Power 2 tonight.
Reason #3
Who is Mark Melligen?
A Filipino fighter training and sparring with Floyd Mayweather Jr. at the Mayweather Gym in Vegas? I got to see this! And word is, he's been holding his own against Floyd on top of giving Victor Ortiz conqueror Marcos Maidana fits when they sparred while Maidana was preparing for Ortiz. Melligen is trained by highly respected Filipino trainer Edito Villamor and his body frame, definition and cuts remind me of a guy named Manny Pacquiao. Melligen considers himself as a stylish boxers and says he can fight and implement all styles in the ring.
Reason #2
Is Bernabe Concepcion the next Manny Pacquiao?
He trains with Pacquiao. His trainer is Pacquiao's trainer, Freddie Roach. He trains at the Wild Card Gym. He even wears Pacquiao's shoes in the ring. People tout him as the "Next Manny Pacquiao" with the way he fights and his demeanor. Bernabe Concepcion has impressed a lot of people thus far including one of my Pound-for-Pound best fighters, Juan Manuel Lopez. The question is, is he ready to be a world champ and beat a grizzled vet and WBO featherweight champ Steven Luevano? Or is this going to be a repeat of "Boom Boom" Bautista who's career was derailed by a devastating loss in his bid for a world title belt against Daniel Ponce De Leon which a lot of people attribute to him being "rushed"? Bernabe will answer those questions come Saturday night.
Reason #1
Will Nonito Donaire overcome the extra challenge of facing a bigger Rafael Concepcion?
Rafael Concepcion did not make weight and was in fact almost 5 pounds above the limit. 5 pounds above the limit?!?!?! At the lower weight classes, 5 pounds is like 20 in the higher weights. It seems that the guy hardly attempted to lose and make the 115 weight limit. Unless he was eating tamales and going to the Las Vegas buffets after he trained, I don't see how he could've seriously tried to make the 115 limit. Some people say this could be a ploy from the Concepcion camp to gain an advantage over Donaire. Donaire could've taken the money and ran but opted to continue with the show for his fans. The Concepcion camp has said they weren't concerned about the money they lost after being fined (20% of his purse) nor the belt. They are intent on beating Donaire.
And if those reasons are not enough, anybody who follows boxing knows that Manny Pacquiao is the most explosive and most exciting fighter in the business today. Pacquiao comes from a breed of warriors who will give it their all in the ring and fights for their country with pride. On Saturday night, you will see three other warriors in Donaire, Concepcion and Melligen who share Pacquiao's pedigree. Get your popcorns ready because there sure will be a lot of fireworks.
