Roy Jones Jr.-Jeff Lacy: The Pre-Fight Report Card

By Cliff Rold - The promotional title for this weekend’s Light Heavyweight showdown is “Hook City” but the more apt title might be “Boulevard of Broken Dreams.” For years, Jones dreamt aloud about getting out of the game before it could do to him what it had so many others and yet as he enters middle age, here he still is, hanging on after four bad defeats in his last eight.

Lacy had bigger dreams once too. The 2000 Olympian worked his way to the moment when he could have seized control of the Super Middleweight landscape only to be thrashed by Joe Calzaghe. He’s never shown the promise he once did again, suffering a terrible shoulder injury and struggling for wins against average fare while losing in the lone major step up he’s had since. In his most recent bout, Lacy narrowly got by journeyman Eric Griffin. Griffin had lost two of three prior by knockout and has since been knocked out again. [details]

Here's hoping for and expecting Roy to dance around and embarrass Jeff Lacy in at least one more flashy performance that leads people to overstate that Roy is back. He may not be able to beat the best, but Roy is plenty good enough to beat a damaged Jeff Lacy.

I hope Jeff Lacy puts an end to Roy Jones
because on the real, Homey need to retire
and explore other options and help keep the
sport thriving. Roy Jones is swimming in
denial doing the back stroke. Calzaghe smacked
him around for 12 rds having him looking like
a beat up whino. Roy is bugging on some
                Apollo Creed S#!t.

The old Roy would have picked Lacey apart, but this Roy...you don't know what you're going to get.If Lacey isn't intimidated by Roy's hand speed and puts pressure on him, its going to be a long night for Roy.
