Concepcion's Weight May Cause Donaire Some Problems

Going into Saturday night's clash, Rafael Concepcion will have a clear size advantage over Nonito Donaire. Concepcion was unable to even get close to the super flyweight limit of 115-pounds and weighed-in at 119 1/2. The fight takes place in the main event of Top Rank's Pinoy Power 2 pay-per-view from the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas.

I still think Nonito will blow him out. Didn't we have a situation similar to this where that one Phillipino journeyman barely could make weight for his fight with Abner Mares on the Pac-JMM 2 undercard? I can't think of the guy's name that Mares fought, but I wasn't referring to Donaire when I said Phillipino journeyman. The weight advantage that the guy had didn't make a difference in the fight.

i believe that was diosdado gabi. and i dont think gabi was really drained.. (gabi rehydrated to like 133 on fight night.) i think mares was just better.

Could go either way, concepcion could come in drained and look like ****, or he may rehydrate well to 130 and be too strong and pose problems for donaire

kudos to donaire for not backing out of the fyt.
he can lose this fyt or he can win real big....
i believe for the latter to happen because of donaire guts and skills!

Don't matter if the guy is 5-10lbs bigger, if a puncher with power like Donaire hits flush on the chin, this guy will still go down. This weight difference matters most when you talkin about pillow fisted fighters like Ivan Calderon, Paulie Malanaggi, and Juan Diaz (just to name a few). This goes the same for Pacquiao VS Cotto, if PACQUIAO catches COTTO flush on his chin, Cotto will go down, and unlike the latter (Corley and Ricardo Lopez) PACQUIAO has the killer instinct to finish a fighter off when they are hurt, add Clottey to the list of latter, cause we know that Clottey gave that fight away by taking breaks.

With the speed, power and intelligence that Donaire has, none of this weight issue is gonna matter, cause this will only slow Concepcion down to get caught flush on his chin and be put to sleep on the canvas. The weight advantage would have matter if it was pillow fisted fighters that were fighting Concepcion.
