EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: HAWAIIAN PUNCH BRIAN VILORIA
By Ryan Burton
Ryan Burton: What is new with you Brian?
Brian Viloria: I am just training for my fight on August 29th in Hawaii against Jesus Iribe. I will be be defending my title and its my first fight in Hawaii since 2003 so I am really excited.
RB: With you back in Hawaii the tickets must be going fast.
BV: Yeah its pretty huge. In the first couple hours over one thousand tickets were sold. It is going very well and everyone is excited not only because I am coming back to fight but because world championship boxing is back in Hawaii.
RB: Take us back over your last fight against Ulises Solis where you won the title in the Philippines.
BV: It was a great fight. That was one of the marquee fights in my career winning a world title. I got the title after winning five in a row for me last year so it definitely is a good year for me. It was great to get a title back.
RB: Assuming you get the win on the 29th where do you go from there?
BV: There is a lot of talk of me and Ivan Calderon having a title unification bout. There are couple other fights out there where I can defend my title as well. I don't want to look over this opponent as he is a tough guy.
RB: What did you think of Calderon's fight with Mayol?
BV: It is unfortunate they had to stop it (headbutts) because it was going back and forth. Calderon is such a great boxer and Mayol was trying to take it to him in that fight. Hopefully they get their rematch.
RB: What are we going to see out of your friends Donaire and Luevano and Concepcion?
BV: Nonito is a great action fighter but the fight I am looking forward to is Luevano vs Concepcion. Luevano is a real tactitioner and Bernabe is a great puncher and he is an action packed fighter so it should be a great fight.
RB: To me it is the real main event as both fighters are evenly matched. Can you give me a prediction for that one? I know they are both your boys.
BV: No predictions from me. I just want to see a great fight.
RB: Do you have a message for the fans?
BV: Thank you guys. I hope you guys tune in for my fight on the 29th. If you have twitter follow me at twitter. Look for Brian Viloria.
