EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: BERNABE CONCEPCION
By Ryan Burton
**********: You were originally scheduled to fight Luevano on the Pacquiao vs Hatton undercard then Luevano got hurt. Do you think the inactivity will hurt you?
Bernabe Concepcion: I am a fighter too so I understand you can get hurt. I have trained hard for this fight and I think I will be ready to go.
BT: Did you do anything different for this fight in training?
BC: No but this is the biggest fight of my career. I am exciting and I want to put on a good show. I know Steven is a good boxer and I have to fight my best to beat him.
BT: What do you have to do to make sure you beat him. What problems does he present?
BC: Oh man Steven is a great fighter. I am a good fighter too and if I stick to Freddy's (Roach) plan everything will be ok.
BT: Do you know if Freddy will be in your corner Saturday?
BC: Yes he is working with some other fighters but he will be there.
BT: Luevano has a great chin and doesn't score a lot of knockouts. Being that most of his fights go the distance did you do anything different to make sure your stamina will hold up?
BC: He is a very good fighter and I am ready to go all 12 rounds if I have to. I know his fights usually go the distance but I have a lot of power too so we will see.
BT: If you win this WBO belt where do you go from here?
BC: My manager says he will give me a vacation to Mexico (laughing). I am not going to call anyone out. I just want to fight the best. I would eventually like a fight with Juan Manuel Lopez since he is such a good fighter.
BT: What advice has Pacquiao given you?
BC: He is always there to support me. I have spent a lot of time in LA with him and Freddy. He helps push me to be a better fighter. He doesn't say anything in particular.
BT: With Pacquiao the guy who put boxing on the map in the Philippines where do up and comers such as Donaire and yourself fit behind him? How popular are you guys in the Philippines?
BC: We are going to get more popularity. I don't get recognized too much on the streets. Maybe that changes if I win on Saturday.
BT: Do you have a message for the fans?
BC: It is going to be the biggest fight in my career. They are all going to be great fights and I want to encourage everybody to watch it. You definitely are going to see a great show.
