For Jeff Lacy it's Right Here, Right Now

By T.K. Stewart - The great fight writer, Jimmy Cannon, once described boxing as “the red light district of sports.” With that in mind, it can easily be said that Jeff Lacy has seen the best and the worst of that seedy neighborhood.

After a successful amateur career that saw him compete in the 2000 Olympic Games, Lacy burst onto the professional scene eight years ago. He was a darling of the Showtime network as many of his early bouts were telecast on their airwaves. Lacy's style was well-suited to the rigors of the pro game and it seemed he was scoring one highlight reel knockout after another as he blazed to certain stardom.

And Lacy did meet with much success. After 16 victories he won the vacant IBF super middleweight title in 2004 and by the end of the next year he had already defended that belt four times.

For Jeff Lacy the sky seemed to be the limit. He had appeared on nearly every television network that still broadcast boxing on a regular basis and he was even appearing in ESPN commercials. It was though that with the careful guidance of Shelly Finkel, Jim Wilkes and Gary Shaw that Lacy would be the new face of boxing and that he would develop into a crossover star capable of carrying the beleaguered sport of boxing on his thick shoulders. Lacy maybe shot but he has the power to do to Jones what Tarver and Johnson did to him. Very dangerous fight in my view for Jones, got to give him props for having the balls to take on this kind of puncher after what happened to him, i don't count Trinidad because he was shot and a much smaller fighter and out of shape fighter to beat Jones, i knew Jones would win that one.

It seems like Lacy doesn't have power anymore, it's weird. Because you could say he was overrated, but however he used to knock out guys with one punch. Maybe he's been emotionally affected like he said, but he seems like someone else.

Its funny, because Lacy got schooled by Calzaghe, the popular opinion is that he was never very good to begin with, thats not true.

Lacy is now missing confidence and power because he buggered up his shoulder.

I actually think lacy is a genuinly decent fellow and wish him luck

Anyone know how much Lacy received for the Calzaghe beatdown in Cardiff?

I predict the first rounds will lean towards Jones and then Lacy lays Jones out in the 3/4 rounds with a big punch.

fight conference Jones says he will continue and fight on...

Jones will out class Lacey. Lacey was a never has been. He was overly hyped by the press. Never cared for the guy. I respect what he does but knew he wasn't anything special.

Unless Lacey gets a lucky "eyes closed" one punch KO as Tarver did in there second meeting, I see this going all 12 with Jones winning by a few rounds. Both have stamina issues. Lacey's still young and I hope him the best if he looses. As well as Jones.
