One claims to be an 8 -time champion (Jones) while the other claims to be a top 10 Pound For Pound fighter (Donaire) today.
One fights in Las Vegas Saturday night while one steps into the ring at about the same time in Biloxi, MS.
The question is: Why are both fighting on the same night and time but on different channels?
Why didn't one of them get scared and blink, giving up the date?
I assume Donaire will draw a big crowd on pay-per-view TV for this Bob Arum driven Pinoy Power 2 from the rabid boxing fans from the Philippines, and maybe California for this Las Vegas fight.
While Jones hopes to draw heavily from his hometown fans in Pensacola, FL - only about 2 1/4 hours from Biloxi and about a 90 minute drive from fight happy New Orleans for the live gate and hopes his world-wide name recognition sells big in the world's living rooms.
I don't know what Jones is really looking to do. He wants to promote. Well he would like to live like a promoter. I don't think he wants to really work hard. That is why he he's hired Bobby Goodman and a few other steady veterans to do the heavy lifting.
He's burned a lot of bridges over the years by the two-hour late appearances at his own press conferences. And most believe as a fighter, well, he's shot.

Donaire, however has an upside. He's a legitimate world champion fighter with a great promoter. Who happens to also promote one Manny Pacquiao, his country's current living hero rock star. and Donaire has barely reached his prime. He has years after Manny Pacquiao to steadily gain weight and carry numerous torches and belts.
This makes Donaire the equivalent of America's Vice President Joe *****. As long as he wins, keeps his mouth shut, and never leers at Mrs. Pacquiao, Donaire, should tumble into lots of money and fame as the heir apparent.
Seriously, both Arum and Jones, Jr. (Roy is his own promoter) hope to break even, get their fighters wins, and keep them busy. So, why are they battling over the casual fans that could make or break their profit/loss statements.
Why are they splitting the fight media (that even cares) in half. One of these two will be a big financial loser come Saturday night.
If Jones just happens to keep winning, he might land a fight with Australian Danny Green - who is on his undercard. It would be in Australia and take a load of promotional burden off of Jones. It could draw a football/soccer stadium - type crowd there, not here in America.
Let's see what happens! Old Jeff Lacy just may have one more hook in his arsenal Saturday night if Jones isn't careful.
