Why are pros not allowed to compete in the Olympics?

I get that its considered amateurs, but its still ******. Unless Im mistaken(which is possible), people in Major League Baseball and the NBA can still compete in the Olympics, and they certainly get a salary.

Imagine how much better the Olympics would be if pros were allowed to compete.

Because Manny Pacquiao would literally kill the 140 lb boxers from third world countries.

Good luck with getting the top pros and their managers, advisers, promoters, etc. to come to terms on an agreement.

he would be facing the other best guys from 140lbs, since they all could compete.

It would get some legendary fights.

        although they would be short.

I see both sides, I think Olympics is the 1 thing where the amateurs from all sports can shine. But then again why let pro basketball and baseball players compete and not boxers? I wonder the same my self.

if they are allowed to, then you can easily predict a gold medal winner in the olympics. imagine pac, jmm, cotto, shane, williams in the olympics? thats overkill. even if they were allowed, i doubt that they will fight there til they get at least 3-7m per fight

not all of them would compete, but you bet your ass a lot of them would.

especially ones from countries that dont get the limelight a lot, or guys that have a lot of national pride in general.

not to mention a gold medal could be selling point.

Um, even if only top 50-20 pro boxers competed, they would still raise the bar on Olympic boxing. How many times have we seen Gold Medalists go to the pros and get wiped out by so-so boxers?

and theres no such thing as overkill when it comes to good matchups.
