Mega Fights on Mainstream Networks Instead of PPV

Do you guys think there would be a comparable revenue stream for the parties involved (promoters, fighters, etc.)? Do you believe that it's a win-win for all parties involved?

Just imagine if the hypothetical match-up Pacquiao-Mayweather was broadcast on NBC instead of HBO PPV.

It would be a huge boost to the sport, not to mention opening up boxing to a wider audience, which in turn would possibly boost PPV revenues in the long-run.

And if enough people watch it, eventually extra sponsors and corporations would buy commercial air times (like the Superbowl).

It would be ideal. PPV is killing the sport more than multiple sanctioning bodies. Mayweather vs Pacquiao on NBC would get 30 million viewers at least.

Mexico and Germany get big fights on free tv. I'm jealous.

They'd have to be willing to take a calculated risk and work something out with the sponsors, like instead of a flat fee for a commercial, it would be depending on the ratings.

Pacquiao-Mayweather stands to make 70-125 Mil (1-2Mil ppv buys+Ticket revenue), the network would have to come up with something like that to beat out HBO PPV. If they got Super Bowl commercial money they could do it, other than that, I don't see it.

Promoters don't really give a **** about the long term, they'll take the big short term money everytime, that's why **** is where it's where is at.

Agreed, sadly. And it's a shame, too, because with a little calculated risk and reasonable effort, boxing could return to its glory days (or at least come close to it), like in the Ali-Frazier era.

We've had this discussion here before - PPV has hurt boxing enormously.

Boxing is set up great for TV a commercial between every round ect but one problem I think for mainstream sportsfans is boxing can be short ie the Hatton Pac fight. And guys want to have time to drink a 30 pack and eat at least 4 bags of chips during the sporting event.
