    I sparred with Jackie Patterson when he was training at our club in 1946 for his fight against Rinty Monaghan. He hit me a body shot that paralysed me. He went easier from then on, but actually had very good sparring with our trainer Frankie Kerr.

    I seem to recall that he was a southpaw.

    On that basis alone I think he should be higher on the list.....................??

    Only kidding about that last comment, but he's someone I'll never forget.

    The writer forgot to mention that Rinty Monaghan always sang an Irish song after his fights, straight from the ring.

      Sorry guys, it was in 1948 not 1946.

      The fighter I liked then was actually Peter Kane who had been forcibly retired by bad eye trouble. Then he had a few operations and after a couple of years made a terriffic comeback. I believe he won the British, Empire and European bantmweight titles, when those titles were taken seriously and meant something.

      I recall he was from a place in England called GOLBOURNE and he had what would be called today ..."POP EYES". His eyes were noticeably protuberant. {He was a terrific fighter}

      Possibly easier to damage.
