its a great fight, impossible too pick a certain winner
Yeah, I want Cotto to be 100% for this fight. I want this fight to be at 147 and not 145. But politics is politics, so we can't do something about it.

I want to see if Cotto can handle Pacquiao's speed, and want to find out if Pacquiao can handle Cotto's power.

i think it goes even deeper than a speed/power battle
cotto knows that being the bigger man on fight night wont win him it and manny knows simply being faster wont do it either
its going too need top strategy and gameplan,it will be a fast-paced chess match (thats why cotto needs a top trainer)
last of all its going too come down too heart and determination, sheer power of will

There many factors but lot of this would depend on Power/Speed.

If Pacquiao can take Cotto's power, and Cotto can't handle Manny's speed, then I can't see how Cotto can win this fight. Except maybe his "accidental" low blow. Vice versa applies to Pacquiao too.

            people really underestimate cotto

sometimes i dont think he gets the credit he deserves. hes a very clever fighter, he applies educated pressure and is always thinking in the ring. has no-one wondered how he has continued success with his left hook throught the bout? think about it he has has been facing good competition for some time now, competition that is smart and knows how to adapt but it is cottos own ring IQ and variety that is the reason behind his success. another example is his defense cotto is no mayweather or toney but he knows how to utlise the right sort of head/body movement to avoid punches.

cotto knows its his best punch and is always thinking about how to set it up throughout a fight; sometimes he hooks off the jab, feints with it to set up other power punchers, doubles it up to the body/head etc. initally i thought that cotto was just a bit lazy and carefree. even when in training he never seemed to train with intensity or any great energy (like say calzaghe, pacman or DLH) he seemed a bit too relaxed for my liking, his nonchalant attitude seemed to be transferred to his fights as well.

another example of his thinking is when hes on the defensive, don't get me wrong cotto is no sweet pea but he knows how to avoid the majority of incoming punches. whether its with head movement or foot postioning, the best example of this is the lateral footowrk cotto showed in his last two rounds with clottey.

but overtime iv realized that thats just the way he trains. in fact i even admire cotto in his fights for having such a cool, calm demanour and being able to keep his wits about him. in fact the only time i think he was really pressed was when he lost to margarito, that was one of the few times i looked at cotto and though he doesn't have that same calm body language he normally does.

in conclusion is cotto lazy in the ring? No. Is he relaxed? Yes. Is he smart? Very.

Cotto is a good fighter. And yes, as you said, he's relaxed.

But I disagree on the defense part. His defense is wide open in the middle. I've observed that his opponents take advantage of it.

agreed about his defense but think maybe i didn't make my own point clear enough.

if there is one thing i could change about cotto its his guard, its so wiiiiiiiiddee!! manny is going to have a field day with his straight left.

i think if i were to substitue the word defence for movement id have made my point alot clearer. to cottos credit he does show some nous despite the wide guard, SSM landed a few good straight rights early but from then on cotto utilised good head movement to avoid the straight punches. cotto defence doesn't seem to be like mayweather or toneys (i.e. shoulder roll, tight guard etc) but instead he looks to make himself a hard target through clever movement.

anyways the main point i wanted to make is that cotto might look relaxed but his brain is working overtime in the ring.

Agree on all except the brain working overtime during the relax part. In his fights, when Cotto relaxes, his opponent got the best of him.
