Cotto Says Split With Evangelista a Long Time Coming

WBO welterweight champ Miguel Cotto spoke on the record for the first time about his violent split with uncle/former trainer Evangelista Cotto. Miguel says the split was a long time coming and there were always problems in the camp. On April 8, the team finally exploded at their gym in Puerto Rico after a dispute over the training camp location [for the Joshua Clottey fight] would lead to Miguel firing his uncle and then it was violence as a brawl erupted between the two of them. Cotto should have got rid of him a long time ago when they did the coundown you could see the tension between them. Cotto was basically training himself, Evangelista didn't do **** and more than likely cost Cotto the Plasterito fight.

I don't think so, I think it has more to do with family and business mixing. It's rarely a good mix because when you are family there are borders that sometimes are crossed and that's not good.

You need a certain level of respect that you have between people that aren't realated and I think that works much better. It's kind of like managers that like to hang around their employees after work and drinka nd bull****. Then they get mad because some of them don't want to listen to them while at work...

It's because you have created too much of a relaxed relationship. It needs to be all business...

Evangelista clearly didn't do his job for the Plasterito fight he hardly worked with Cotto and they weren't even on speaking terms. He showed up late to the dressing room and more importantly wasn't there to see Plasterito's hands get wrapped. Evangelista definately cost Cotto the Plasterito fight.

This story should have been written months ago. What's next, an article about how Mike Tyson should have trained harder for the Buster Douglass fight?

I kid, I kid... I hope his douche bag uncle doesn't get ****! 7 million? Go fuck yourself Douchvangilista.

wow thats some crazy **** . but i think Cotto would do just fine without evangelista, i think he may beat pac, but i dnt agree with some of the comments that he lost the fight with margarito bcuz of evangelista, with or without evangelista margarito has cottos ticket and will beat him any time anywhere. but i think cotto would do perhaps better than he did with evangelista.

Yea,really, talk bout a story waaaaay long over due on here, 1-I thought he was called junito, not j unit, anyway 2-phil is not doing sumthing right , if cotto tires out late and even cotto says his legs get tired they need to correct it or get sumone else to improve that **** . he still is going to go out and get throwed,so deal with it and make him work harder to make up for the all the excess partying bull**** if he doesnt want to improve stamina . 3-i hope he gets michael Moore at his training camp , since he ain't ****ing with pac anymore , that would improve more than what Santiago is doing.Moore will give all the tips from pac strenghths and weaknesses.I thought joe Chavez was the trainer for his last fight as much as he was in front of cotto even tho he was working on the cut. Santiago looked like the assistant.he doesn't look to have that knowledge .but win lose or draw . No excuses .
