one last thought, this guy probably has a very good reason for wanting you to sign with him. Once you fight your way around the block a couple of times you will probably realize that hes not as in or as smart with the game as you think he is right now. Just a thought....................Rockin'

If the guy is pushing you to sign as a beginning amatuer then I would shy away from him. Boxing is a brutal and ruthless sport when your rollin' in the pros. The ams are good for kids in many different ways. There are those out there who will try to take advantage of thye kids, like this guy it seems.

Find a trainer your comfortable with and work with him. Any trainer thats been in the game will have the same little connections this so called manager has, probably more. Find one you fit with and if your worth it inhis eyes he will guide you where you will need to be if you turn pro.

Oh yeah, the muhamad ali act states that no manager shall recieve over 33.3% of a fighters purse...................Rockin'
        so

so this is automatic? The Mohammad Ali act? Meaning regardless of what this manager is offering me, he can't go no more than what the Muhammad Ali act? This is to protect a fighter from getting screwed? So if this manager is asking for more than that, the contract is fishy and at the end would eventually **** the manager over then since it violates an "act"? If that's the case, i guess I feel protected. In this same thread, boxers here claims managers should not get more than 15%. I'm getting mixed answers then.

well I am not a kid, this is why I have logical questions if you read my posts...

My trainer is Henry Sims...been around for as long as you have. Fought as a pro in 1977-1987, cruiserweight...

about the Tyson book, that's what the book stated. don't always believe what you read. didn't cus legally adopted tyson? There has to be a contract involved knowing that Cus had been around the boxing game to know how competitive it is, only a contract could protect him, if anyone else tried to steal Mike. Cus didn't bother if Mike finished school since he was knocking people out. didn't cus had a **** charge as well? was that in the book or “hush hush”? There's lots of "hush hush" in boxing and autobiography books. kinda like hilary claiming in her book she didn't know **** about bill ****in around or about that sniper snafoo in bosnia was exaggerated. Or that heavyweight guy with HIV who fought Foreman, then made a comeback claimed he never really had it, it was a mistake, etc. then back to having HIV again. There are scums in boxing, I'm just looking out after myself and thanks for the answers...

He personally knows Jack Cowen, the guy in charge of the amateurs/Golden Gloves in Chicago, so he claims. I found my current trainer through this guy. My trainer is Henry Sims. I just hope this manager is legit. But then again, without him, I'd be a lone wolf in Chicago or boxing for that matter.

The manager doesn't sound as "in" with the current boxing scene as he claimed he'd been out of boxing for a long time. Didn't know much about those 3 boxers that were murdered recently. This is why I smelled fish. But then again, I've seen fights on TV where fighters and trainers didn't know how dangerous their opponents were or knew who the hell they were and their record, they take them lightly then gets knocked out. Not everyone in boxing can know everyone you know?

Born in Manila, Phillippines to a Filipina mom and a Kuwaiti father. Grew up in the U.S.

5'7" at 160 does appear bad on paper, thus I am dropping to a weight class where there's more competition (140-147)...

33.3% is whats legal. With the mixed answers you just have to remember that your dealing with alot of people never in the game.

The woman outside the ring in my avatar was my manager, Jackie Kallen. Thats me in the ring bacjk in the day. We never had a contract, she knew me since my amatuer days and we trusted eachother.

This trainer Sims, I'll bet he never asked for a contract. Because he probably knows what he is doing and is confident in his abilities to show you what you'll need..................Rockin'

                    /end thread

This guy comes in here looking for answers but seems to be discrediting everything anyone says. Sounds like you know it all dude.

5-7 160? Pick a different line of work.
