well let me explain this to you, since i studied a lot of this for about 7-8 years
the body gets used to what you do for 21 days (3 weeks)
de la hoya was at 145-147 pounds A MONTH before the fight... while training
when one tries to rehydrate after being dehydrated for such a long time, it's literally impossible to do so. he must have tried it the day before the fight. he even used IV the day of the fight, but his body rejected the fluids
there was no way that ODLH could withstand physically what it takes to go down to 147. he was too old and too much of a part time fighter to do that, and he paid the price
what i don't understand is why NOBODY told him that he shouldn't go down to 145 a month before the fight. that ****'s unreal
EDIT: btw, cotto rehydrating to 155-158 is very healthy, because although he will be much heavier, that extra water goes into the muscles and actually give him both stamina and endurance. it's not extra weight what he gains, it's just going back to his optimum weightLast edited by fdotorres; 08-06-2009, 01:59 PM.Comment

I guess my problem is that boxing is a give and take. they BOTH VERBALLY agreed on it being a 145/ NON-TITLE match and PACMAN not cotto wanted it changed to a title fight. Cotto said, ok with title fight but let me get 147. I'll give you title fight and you let me(cotto) fight at 147?1. Why do yall think cotto weighing in at 145, is unfair???
2. Why shouldnt the belt be on the line???
3. How do you see the fight going???
my answers
1. it isnt unfair, cotto will still out-weigh pac by 10-15lbs. The only reason dlh was dehydrated, is cuz dlh waited til after the unofficial weigh-in(the night of the fight) to rehydrate.
2. The belt should be on the line, cuz cotto is the champ. to me cotto not putting the belt on the line, shows team cotto is worried about him losing.
3. I see Pac winning an UD. puts pressure on cotto all night, and cotto wont be able to handle pacs speed wellComment
