EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: ALFREDO "PERRO" ANGULO
By Ryan Burton
Ryan Burton: How did traing camp go for this fight with Gabriel Rosado?
Alfredo Angulo: I was training in the gym like I always do. I rested for two weeks after the fight with Cintron and I was back in the gym. Everything has gone well.
RB: You know that you have an HBO date waiting for you on November 7th on the Dawson Johnson 2 undercard if you win this fight. Does that make you feel more pressure for this fight or are you able to block it out of your mind?
AA: No I am not worried about anything other than this Friday. I am focused on Friday. I know I am going to give a great fight. I know that Rosado is a good fighter. I will be ready for him and I always take it one fight at a time.
RB: Rosado has always been an opponent but he has beaten a lot of fighters he wasn't supposed ot beat and he never has been knocked down. Did you study tape on him?
AA: Yes we did study him. He is a good fighter. He is strong and he is tall. I don't think he will be a problem for me as we have trained hard.
RB: He is very tall. Is part of the plan to fight on the inside?
AA: Probably we have to move our feet more and use a lot of movement. We have to fight a smart fight. We beat Archak TerMeliksetian and he was like 6'2" so we are ready for tall fighters.
RB: What went through your mind when you found out Vernon Forrest was murdered. Obviously it is a tragedy but he was a fighter in your weightclass that you looked up too.
AA: It was very sad. Vernon was someone I wanted to fight down the road. He was one of the best in the division. I think it would have been a great fight. When I heard he died I couldn't believe it. When I heard they robbed him and killed him just for a car it shows what a tradedy it really is and how some people don't value human life.
RB: In the last year to year and a half there have been a lot of murders in Mexico with the wars between the drug dealers and police. Being that is your country do you think Mexican fighters are taking more precautions. Forrest was killed here but violence seems to be happening with greater frequency everywhere.
AA: The violence is all over the world. The war between the drug dealers and police is on the news all the time but it is happening here in the U.S. and everywhere else. I am sure everyone is being careful but sometimes there isn't anything else you can do.
RB: Going back to the fight, do you think you can be the first to knock out Gabriel Rosado?
AA: We will see. He is strong and I am going to go in there and do my best. Other fighters have tried before me. You have to wait till Friday to see.
RB: Do you have a message for the fans?
AA: This fight is dedicated to the family and memory of Vernon Forrest. Like always remember the name Alfredo Perro Angulo. I always give a great show and this is no exception. On Friday the people who are able to attend the show I want to thank and the people who are watching it on ESPN as well. There are still some tickets left so please come out and watch a great show.
RB: Good luck Friday.
AA: Thanks Ryan
