I know there's a lot of shady stuff going on, but that not really what Teddy and Max focus on.

They're more into discrediting the fighters they don't like (mostly European and UK) and, with Max, nuthugging and overrating the fighters he likes (Zab Judah).

Teddy and Al Bernstein can't even score a fight without being biased.

Yea, but you gotta understand too that as a commentator, you're still entitled to your own opinion. A lot of great fighters in their time were discredited for whatever reason it may be. It's one of those things that comes with the territory not only in Boxing, but being an athlete in general. Take it with a grain of salt...

Ex. Teddy Atlas says Cotto is damaged goods, but I beg to differ. It doesn't change the fact that Im still a fan of Cotto's as well as many other people are regardless of what Teddy or anyone else may think.

The MMA commentators try to build excitement, as do the hockey, football and basketball commentators and anaylsts.

But in boxing we need to listen to the negativity and constant bitching by people like Teddy Atlas, Wally Matthews, Max Kellerman and Al Bernstein. Oh, we have some good ones like Gus Johnson, Joe Tessitore, Manny Steward and Jim Lampley, but with every telecast we have some idiot bitching about referees' decisions, and either nuthugging or discrediting boxers.

Would boxing become more popular if they replaced some of the negative, biased commentators with better ones?
I agree. Even in the most boring UFC fights the commentators are sucking ****. Even in the fight where Kalib Starnes runs away making Derrick Gainer look like Diego Corrales the commentators where saying how great his opponents stand up was.

Even as a hardcore fan i hate listening to Atlas. No way ignorant or casual fans will listen to him.

Yup,here's why,I've heard countless comentators hyping fighters up,then U see those same fighters getting worked over by an underdog & the hype continues, then all of a sudden boom, fights over & the hypejob gets the win & ur stuck there scratching ur head like, what just happened!!

For ex. Berto-Collazo,Lewis was hyping Berto's speed & so was hbo,no one mentioned Collazo's speed & the way in which he was winning!!I believe all the hype & the prefight documentaries saved Berto's a$$!!

I disagree with this thread, the low popularity of boxing in recent years has nothing to do with some of the rubbish commentators. One of my fav sports is F1 and it went through a bad patch in the early 00’s when Schumacher was winning everything ratings dropped badly and I remember reading reports in papers saying how F1 was dying, but as soon as we had great seasons like 2007 and 2008 the ratings went up massively even with that **** James Allen who was a terrible commentator. If you had a loaded heavyweight division with lots of evenly matched fighters putting on great fights on free TV people will tune in, It also wouldn’t do any harm having a home grown talent to boost your ratings.

The only thing that hurts is when the Rah Rah crew at HBO blindly backs it's fighters. The different personalities for boxing promoters only enhances the sport. I'd rather listen to Kellerman speak truth then Joe Rogan tell me over an over again about "sinking the hooks in".

I agree, but they need to be fair and honest, and shouldn't be biased.

Max Kellerman ignores the bull**** that's in line with his biases, and creates bull**** where there really isn't any.
