Is Floyd Mayweather Jr. still in his "Prime"?

Would you say the current #1 P4P fighter in the world is still in his prime?

I would say at this stage, he is still his prime.

Mayweather has been out the ring almost 2 years now and that could affect him.

Mayweather hasn't been in his prime in over 7 years. watch his pre-jr welter fights and compare them to his post jr welter fights. mayweather is definitley not in his prime.

Although that has allot to do with fighting bigger opponents (thus more focus on defense and less punch output) i must agree he isn't the prime MW anymore. He took a little while getting off vs Hatton and that's a sign of becoming old. Same with Marquez and Campbell who now only get off late in fights if at all. But i guess this is what people want to see. I rather see prime fighters fighting within their full ability but money speaks louder these days. Specially when you have spending habits such as Floyd or as many kids as Campbell, then you are destined to go out on a low. That's why my only true idol is Lennox Lewis. No one has ever managed to fight the best in their era, avenge his losses by a land-mile and retire with dignity as the UNDESPUTED HW champion. Lewis did so well people to this day still recognize him as the true champion even though we have pretty good albeit kinda boring fighters in the K brothers.

dunno why people are saying no....hes obviously still in his prime..and if he isnt as good as he was before retirement he should of thought about that before retiring....

But im sure hes still in his prime...just the lay off he might be that tiny bit mre rusty but as he said, he stayed in good shape in the 2 years....so im sure his prime will last long he has such a gd healthy lifestyle

I think the two year layoff took away something from his prime, just as it did to Muhammad Ali after he came back.

BTW, he isn't considered in the p4p list until after the match is over.

Well I do think that Floyd does kind of have what it takes to hang on for a very long time in boxing. He fights in a cautious style that is grounded in fundemental stuff so his style should work well as he ages. Also he does not really do anything bad to his body and dude is always in shape. However Floyd has been a champion since 1998 so he has already been at the top level of boxing for a long time maybe that catches up with him at some point.

You could argue that he has declined since he gained some experiance and started fighting differently but overall I still view him as normal. Going into the JMM fight there is a possibility for rust, his great timing could be off somewhat and if that is the case it will be an interesting fight
