Now the rules state that if a fight is stopped due to a cut caused by an accidental headbutt it should be a ND, but it didn't seem to me at least that the cut was bothering Nate, it was the butt itself that effected his vision not the cut, there was no blood going into his eye, he just couldn't see. So what would have been the correct thing to do in this situation?

Well the cut was very bad, it was diagnoally across his eye and during the round there was definitely blood flowing into his eye, I think. The cut got stopped by the cornermen, yes, but only after the bout was already halted. I think in the midst of the situation the referee made a judgement call after he saw the punch, but really looking back at the replay, it was apparent that Nate got butted.
For the time, I think the ref made the only call he thought that he could, he even said he saw the butt, but that the last thing he saw was a punch and that's what he went off of. Nate's appeal to the CSAC will most likely go through, so really I don't think this'll be a very big problem. If it doesn't get overturned that's ridiculous.
