Bradley, Alexander: The Post-Weekend Report Card

By Cliff Rold - When the BoxingScene ratings (http://www.boxingscene.com/forums/view.php?pg=boxing-ratings) are updated later this week, 25-year WBO titlist Timothy Bradley (26-0, 12 KO) will be in the same number one spot he was in before Saturday night’s controversial defeat of Nate Campbell. 22-year old newly minted WBC titlist Devon Alexander (19-0, 12 KO) will certainly be a new addition, dropping a significant average.

    Average age that is.

Including 30-year old lineal World Jr. Welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao, the average age of the Jr. Welterweight division rests at right around 26 years of age making it one of the youngest classes in the sport. It’s got its old hands for sure but when one considers the current top ten, undefeated talents like 25-year old Lamont Peterson (27-0, 13 KO) and 29-year old Mike Alvarado (26-0, 19 KO) who haven’t quite cracked the top ten yet, and a 22-year old Victor Ortiz who could return, Jr. Welterweight becomes a bigger window to the game’s future than almost any other division.

I just got finished watching the bradley vs nate fight,, and i was just disgusted for boxing once again!!! Boxing needs an athletic commision rep to be at ringside for every fight to over turn a horrible decision by refferes like this one. It was blatantly a headbutt and that fight should have been a no-contest. Even bradley looked like he wanted to say the truth after he saw it for himself,, he got no back bone and i dont respect that. Thats the problem with boxing today,,, when things like that happen someone needs to come and review the tape right there at ring side and over turn decisions... Thats complete bull**** and its not right, its hurting the sport.. This is exactly why guys like dana white aim and put boxing on blast and really do have legitimate points when they talk boxing. This is disgusting and it makes fans go elsewhere,,, thats prob y one of the reasons boxing is hurting and ufc is gettin so big.. Cause the fans wouldnt be havin it... In boxing the fans get cheated again!!!! Till the next bull**** decision.

I would like to point out some habits that these young lions tend to develop.

These days, with the aide of media, internet, tv; I noticed that once these young gunz picked up a strap or made some name for himself, they immediately want to catapult themselves to the big time by talking trash and calling out the big names instead of working their way up beating contenders and fellow rising stars and proving their worth.

Take for example Tim Bradley, after this 'win' he's already talking about fighting the big names like Mayweather and Pacquiao. C'mon, does he really think he's worth a glance let alone a look of those two? Those are the two best pound-for-pound fighters of recent memory and suddenly he deserved a shot? Has he ever thought how long and winding the road those people took before they got to where they are now? He's had only 25 fights and no spectacular win to be remembered of. He needs to build a following. There's Urango, Khan and now Alexander who each one owns a strap at 140. Unify the division. Move up in weight. Try emulating what Pacquiao and Mayweather have done. It would be impressive if he can beat a big puncher in Urango who gave former linear champion Ricky Hatton fits and was able to hang with welterweight titleholder Andre Berto. Do this and he can get a ticket to the title. The title of being the opponent of Pacquiao or Mayweather.

Is it just me or has anybody noticed that black fighters DON'T LIKE (I thought HATE was too much) Pacquiao? The Mayweathers, Campbell, Bradley, they all have issues on Manny. Is it being black and American overshadowed by the success of some former flyweight champion who used to sleep on cardboard boxes? Maybe Pacquiao bites off some of their 'swagger'. I think Bradley's issue is Manny coming to his house and claiming it's his. Pacquiao fought once at 140, knocking out the real champion and suddenly is The Man. Much like Mayweather, who took a vacation, upon his return his kingdom has a new king. Campbell meanwhile, well, it's just a case of attention deficit. He just wants some attention because all he can do is watch on the sidelines while Pacquiao basks in glory after knocking out a champion in his division and later moved on to bigger, better things. Poor Nate.

These people are too jealous to appreciate what Pacquiao has done.
