    Bernard Hopkins: Still the Champion

You know why I like Hopkins? The man is one of the smartest boxers around that is why. Here we have a 40-year old fighter who should be long past his prime. Yet, he still beats the best in his division and continues to dominate the Middleweights. Last Saturday night, he defeated a very tough Howard Eastman. Here are the fight facts. Hopkins throws less than 30 punches per rounds and connects on nearly half of those. His opponent throws nearly twice as many as punches but he rarely connected. Eastman hit air; he hit Hopkins' arms but rarely Hopkins' body.

Hopkins moved throughout the first four rounds to a chorus of boos. Fans, still excited by Jermain Taylor's short evening, disapprove of the lack of action. Hopkins did not stand toe to toe with Eastman, but moved and boxed. [details]

Bernard Hopkins is one hell of a fighter, and proved it to the world when he messed up an un talented Eastman. Nothing better than watching a trash talker get his mouth shut by a true champion

bernard is the best boxer out right now... he may not have fought like a champ(i mean crowd pleasing by fighting like a champ) but he got the w. in the long run dats wat counts. personally i thik hopkins could have engaged more with eastman to make the fight remotely interesting but he didn't have to. so i guess it was smart on his part to fight that way... its just not a crowd pleasing style. Big ups sto hopkins on his 20th though.

Hopkins has nothing to detract from his legacy and even were he to take a L in this year he's made a major impact on his division that will reverberate for decades. He will go out on his shield if it comes to that but for sheer ring savvy I haven't seen his equal.
