I don't know what to make of what Margarito is saying to be honest. I feel really bad having to leave the guy in the gutter and just totally write him off, because he was one of my favorite fighters until he got totally disgraced. I'll tell you one thing though, nobody thought that Barrera could come back after he was destroyed by Junior Jones. He fought him in a rematch and made that fight competitive and almost even won.

I used to bash Margarito even while I was a fan for not being willing to rematch Paul Williams. But in hind sight, I kind of understand why he didn't. He didn't get totally blown out in that fight like he did with Mosley. A part of me really thinks that maybe he actually was out of shape for the fight with Mosley even though Mosley just totally stomped a hole in his forehead. I think if the guy from the Cotto fight got in there with Mosley, he would still probably lose, but at least make the fight more competitive and last the distance.

You don't need plaster in your gloves to have the kind of stamina that Margarito did while he was in shape. Unlike Barrera, Margarito does not have the boxing IQ to get convincing victories over slick fighters. He would lose to Paul Williams and Shane Mosley almost every time. So I would rather give those guys the credit they deserve and say fuck Margarito. After all, he did turn soft and celebrity like after he beat Cotto, and it was part of the reason why he fell off.
