I cant beleive Im hearing all these people say that the fight shouldnt be for the title. Im definatly not a big fan of Pac getting 7 titles but the fact is that he is the #1 P4P guy in the sport and is moving up to fight Cotto at a very comfortable 145 while giving Cotto his biggest payday ever. This has happened a million times in boxing but now everyone is upset. In all of these cases its basically 90/10 in favor of the fight being for the belt. What cards does Cotto really hold? Dude is a solid star inside of boxing but he isnt making money like that. What, is he really going to turn down a fight against a smaller man, who is the best in the world, for his biggest payday, over 2 pounds? Half the time these guys weigh-in at 146 anyways but now he cant weigh-in at 145 even though he's still going to baloon up to 160? I personaly think its a scared way to act. Its like he's thinking alot about losing.
Lets say Floyd was still a WW champ, would he hesitate to put his belt on the line against Pac at 145? He could care less because he thinks he will win and because he knows that he's bigger then the belt. Lets talk about all the other WW stars. Williams, Berto, Mosley, and Clottey. You think any of them would hesitate 1 second to be there belt up? For what. Its so ****** and petty. Again, Pac is the man right now. Cotto looks like he's on the downside but now he's going to act like he's running the show. I know he's only getting 35% or whatever but really, does he honestly deserve more then that to fight a guy who is significatly smaller, rated much higher as of now, and is a far bigger star. He's a fool if he turns down Pac because of this and goes to fight someone like Margarito or Clottey for a 3rd of the money when he could easily lose to them.
Cotto acts like he is a bum or something. Who cares about the title? When youre a guy like Cotto, you can get a title fight at any time because he's already established. If Pac beats him then I bet anything that Berto would fight Cotto in his very next fight if Cotto wanted it. You know Mosley would fight him if there was nothing else. He could easily get a Williams fight if he wants. The title really means nothing for him and yet he's crying about it when I think 145 is very generous. I thought the whole time that the fair fight would be at 144. To me thats moreso in the middle at a weight that both guys could be pretty equal. At 144 then I might even let Cotto get away with keeping the title but you cant make Pac come up to 145 and not get a title. Oscar went for the title at a catch weight against Hopkins because Oscar was the man. Floyd said that he would put his SFW title on the line against Naz at 128. Any other WW would easily put there title on the line against Pac, e****ally at 145. I dont think Cotto can even cry about the weight, let alone the titles.
I think Pac should say take it or leave it. Cotto will have to accept or he's a fool. No one else would hesitate on this. How can you say NO when you are the bigger man, going for your biggest pay day, against one of the 2 biggest names in the sport, when you look like your fading, and youre getting it at the weight you wanted it. If you asked Cotto 6 months ago, he wouldve easily had took a fight at 145 against Pac and anyone else wouldve jumped at it. Now he's acting like the weight is so low that he needs to keep his titles? I dont get it. Its cowardly and I cant believe so many think otherwise. Bottom line is that Pac is the man so he calls the shots and this is not an Oscar situation. I think everything is pretty fair considering Pac is the bigger name, on the upside, is P4P #1, and is a little guy moving up. Pac is doing him a favor, not the other way around. He could easily fight a guy his own size in Floyd for a much bigger fight or could even easier fight Shane at 140. He's giving Cotto the chance here. Pac could even go for a bigger title against an easier guy in Berto but he's doing Cotto a favor. How can you argue against that?
