Is Tarver Done As A Big Time Fighter?

Do you think Antonio Tarver's career and legacy is in trouble? He won the biggest fight of his career by knocking out Roy Jones but then he gets beat by Glen Johnson in his first defense. In his rematch with Johnson I think he will have to win very impressivly to regain the boxing worlds attention again. I think alot people people forget that Tarver is 36 years old if he doesn't win this rematch he is done probably as a major fighter, do you think he was just way over hyped from the beginning? I think so, its like when Larry Merchant said Tarver's been talking up this fight and himself on the radio and on television but in the end ITS JUST A FIGHT. Being able to talk good only gets you so far in boxing, in the rematch Tarver has to show us he can talk the talk and walk the walk like he did against Jones otherwise he is probably done.

If he loses one more time....then yeah he is definitely finished....right now it's only his big mouth that is keeping people interested in him. I'm not a huge fan of Tarver but I must admit I am interested in what he has to say...same with James Toney. Both these fighters are great self promoters. But like you said...Tarver better deliver the goods or that's it for him.

Tarver is a lucky ****er...he was on his way to another beating against Harding and got lucky with one shot and then with Jones he was going to get outpointed and closed his eyes again.

He may beat Johnson the second time but AT is far from a great fighter...his legacy will be ****!

I never really consider Tarver as a big time name. And I do believe that he would burst away like a bubble if he gets beaten by Johnsone in the rematch. Even so, he would fade away if he doesn't follow it up. Tarver never had a legacy.

Tarver will beat Johnson in the rematch but Johnson is better than people give him credit for. He has a steel chin, decent power, and a big heart and high work rate. He is no technican but he is no bum either.

Didn't Hopkins knock him out? How exactly did that happen?
Tarver is overrated, Johnson is underrated, and they will both be finished after the next fight.
