Margarito Plans To Wait, Refuses Mexico Return

I am not part of the crowd that thinks Margarito was innocent and ignorant. I do, however, think this is the best route he has open and shows wisdom I did not expect from him.Former three-time welterweight champion Antonio Margarito will not make a planned September return in Mexico. He does want to fight in September but only if the fight takes place in the United States. The only way that can happen is if the California State Athletic Commission returns his boxing license. The Mexican fighter had his license revoked back in February when the CSAC found him liable for a plaster-like substance that was found in his handwraps prior to the bout with Shane Mosley on January 24. if he had a guilty conscious then he would probably go head and start fighting in Mexico. IMO. Good for you Marg.Comment

its good to read an obnoxious comment as the one here, "he set boxing back with this ****"....that just means all you Margarito haters recognize how big Margarito is and will be once more to boxing! i do have to agree with one of you cats tho....i feel bad for whoever they put in front of him first! Tornado's got something to prove!Comment

Luis Resto wasn't "big" and he set boxing back. Duk Kyu Kim wasn't big but his death had an unprecedented impact in boxing.
If the plaster would've been found after the fight he'd be in jail, just like Resto and Panama Lewis did for 2½ years.
I know Mexican boxing is **** right now, but you still have Marquez to root for. Stop idolizing this cheating fraud.Comment

Cuauetemoc (hope I spelled that right) brought up a point earlier that Margarito didn't land any punches on Mosley. I don't totally agree with that. He landed some punches, but Mosley walked through them. Mosley even admitted that he could feel Margarito's punches and Mosley said that they hurt him when they landed. I don't condone what Margarito did, but I won't totally write the guy off if he comes back. I know the bitter Cotto fans think that their hero got cheated and that's understandable. But they need to consider what a past-prime version of Margarito was able to accomplish on him. The version that fought Tono Diaz would've squashed him plaster or no plaster. I am no Margarito fan by any stretch of the imagination but I do think his aggressive style (as someone mentioned earlier) is what caused him to crash and burn.Last edited by Iceta; 07-30-2009, 09:18 PM.Comment
