he has never claimed to be exciting and no one claims him to be exciting...here is part of an article at MaxBoxing.com which explains him in a nutshell and why some of us appreciate the man:
--------------------------------------
"I think they wanted us to fight like Gatti-Ward, but that's not my style."
Hopkins, now 46-2-1 (32), was always a smart warrior, although in the early to mid-'90s he was a feared puncher. However, since the late '90s, Hopkins has developed into a cagey veteran who relies more on his mind than his muscle.
Against the game Eastman, Hopkins showed that he's more of a cutie than a killer. He's more about feints than fury. He's more about timing than hand speed. He's focused on his footwork more than his power. He's not about non-stop punching, just perfect punch placement. He had better defensive moves than offensive attacks.
It doesn't always thrill the crowd, but it continues to get the job done."
--------------------------------------
if you only like guys like Ponce DeLeon who just throws wild punches...then have fun watching him lose (he just lost his last fight)...
I am just upset that more don't show appreciation for greatness that we have right in front of us...so many people complain about "today's" fighters...yet ignore Hopkins because he doesn't fight like Mike Tyson anymore...if you don't think Hopkins can fight...please watch his marquee fights throughout his career...
