I mean seriously what sort fo sport allows you to beat up you opponent when he is down??? Or even worse knocked out. Seen many clips a MMA dude gets knoed out the other guy continues belting him until the ref stops the fight. Now thoese extra 2 or 4 punches can at times be deadly!!!!!!!!!

A fighter beating another fighter when he's down happens in real life fights. There's not a form of ettiquite on the streets when it comes to live situations.

If you dont want to call that a sport then youre admitting UFC is more brutal and closer to real life then boxing. (which it is, but alot of people here will not admit it)

I drink beer, my friends and alot of people do too. If floyd and anyone is insecure about that then they can KMA and SMD.

In boxing you dont stop punching because you rocked your opponent. You beat on them until they either fall down or the ref, corner, or doctor steps in and stops fight.

Same thing with MMA. Thats just how it goes when fights are allowed continue on the ground.

Of course alot of MMA guys punch wide. That's what happens when grapplers are taught how to punch by guys who are not boxers.

That would be like boxers being taught judo by Nacho Beristain. Of course it would look ugly.

But give MMA a break. Its a VERY VERY young sport. Boxing was the same way during it's beginning years. Look at the technique of guys Jack Dempsey or Joe Louis. It looks horribly sloppy compared even to guys like George Foreman who had slightly sloppy technique by modern standards.

I just noticed that as well.

Dempsey I can see why you would say that.

                  Louis, though? Absolutely not.

He laid the groundwork for the modern boxer in terms of the technique and skill we see today. He was the "missing link", or the transitional period, if you will ; between fighters of old and fighters of new.

Timing, precision, fluidity, and power in both hands.

I love watching old Louis fights.

Ehhh....that's debatable. But his stance left him very open and had horrible movement. Potentially fatal flaws in a fighter today but was very common at the highest level in those days.
