Heart scare for boxer Ricky Hatton

Doctors tell the 'Hitman' to stop his binge and bust eating habits or end his career
    Ricky Hatton

Ricky Hatton has been told to dump his binge-and-bust lifestyle or risk an early end to his boxing career.

Hatton, 30, who has a heart murmur, has been told to lay off the booze and improve his diet.

The former world champion had tests last week after doctors noticed an irregular heartbeat. They spotted the condition after he was admitted to hospital with a stomach complaint, and will run further tests.

They have warned Hatton – one of the finest professionals in British boxing history – that his health could be at risk by over-exercising and training.

While he waits, he has been advised to rest for a month.

Hatton, who was brought up in a pub, is notorious for his hard drinking and poor diet when he is not in training.

A source close to him said: “Ricky thinks it’s all a storm in a teacup, feels fit as a fiddle and wants to carry on training and fighting.”

The boxing star talked about his heart murmur in his book The Hitman: My Story, saying: “I had every test in the book and was given the all-clear. But it was a worrying few days.”

Last week boxing promoter Frank Warren joined a long line of people urging Hatton to quit.

His comments followed recent brutal and humiliating defeats to Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jnr.

    Hatton refused to comment.
