    Jorge Fernando Castro-an appreciation

I think Castro is probably one of the most underappreciated fighters in recent history. If you have watched his first fight with John David Jackson, you know what I'm talking about. He was getting pounded against the ropes for almost 8 rounds and yet he needed only two punches to put Jackson away. He had world class power, chin and stamina. And speed as well. He gave Roy Jones one of his toughest fights in the early stage of his career. And his record stands at 130(!) wins with 90 knockouts and only 11 losses. He also beat the great Roberto Duran, maybe past his prime but still a hardy fighter and fought from middleweight up to cruiserweight. And yet he is scarcely mentioned on boxing sites and forums.

Exactly! and people have the audacity to compare my man Terry Norris's chin to Amir Khan's. Norris been in there with Mugabi, Curry, Castro,

      Norris beat Castro with ease!

Norris' chin was terrible but, it was only exposed when he deviated from his gameplan. Believe it or not, Norris had very goood technical skills and could box your socks off but, once he deviated from the plan, he was hittable.

Of course even Norris' chin shouldn't be compared to Khan's but Norris looked so good in that fight that he probably didn't get hit once.

Castro may have had limited boxing ability but he must have been one of the toughest fighters of all time. Even at cruiserweight, at 30+ lbs over his best weight, Castro was able to absorb an amazing amount of punishment.

It's tough to see any middleweight in history knocking him out. He could be stopped on accumulation, like JD Jackson almost managed, but he was near impossible to take off his feet.

And yes, it is amazing that Duran was able to compete with a prime/near prime Castro at 46 years of age. Duran showed an iron chin in those fights, it's tough to imagine how he was ever stopped by Hearns and Joppy. I guess the speed was too much for him, especially by the time he fought Joppy. It's not like he was badly hurt in that fight, he just couldn't respond with any punches of his own.

Jorge Castro vs John David Jackson:

Ironically this was likely Jackson's best ever performance, and the most I've ever seen Castro hurt in his prime.

Norris chin was not terrible, he stood toe to toe with many people and stayed on his feet. Junior Jones had a terrible chin. If Norris's chin was that bad he would not of beaten guys like Castro, Curry, Leonard etc.

Norris had exceptional Boxing skill but he was gun slinger at heart.

Also you say WHEN he deviated away from the game plan? Norris took the fight to Castro and had him pinned against the ropes most of the fight peppering him with combination's, he was not exactly being cautious against Castro or Don Curry, he stood there with Curry and took his lumps to. See what Curry did to McCrory.

Norris had a bad chin but i reserve terrible for guys like Khan, Junior Jones, Herbie Hide.

Those were two awesome Latino fighters. Both belong in the hall of fame, Duran of course is. Castro should also be included. He also had two close fights with Reggie Johnson. Anybody know where I can find them?
