By Jake Donovan - Junior flyweight titlist Giovanni Segura had his way with very late sub Juanito Rublillar, punishing the Filipino over six one-sided rounds in their junior flyweight title bout in the co-main event of the Latin Fury 10 pay-per-view telecast, aired live from Grand Mayan in Nuevo Vallarta, Nayarit, Mexico.
The official time was 2:04 of the sixth round.
Segura spent the early rounds fighting like a man who was double-parked. An overwhelming desire for a knockout led to several scoring opportunities for Rubillar, who took the fight on less than 48 hours notice after countryman Sonny Boy Jaro was scratched due to visa issues.
The lack of discipline exuded in the early rounds earned Segura a lecture from disgraced head trainer Javier Capetillo, who urged his charge to calm down and offer something more than wild power shots.
It took a couple of rounds for the advice to sink in, but Segura found his range in the third round, hurting Rubillar on several exchanges. A double right hook to the head and body forced Rubillar to double over, appearing to drop to a knee, though no knockdown was called by referee Luis Pabon. [details]
