Alberto Rosas Punishes Alejandro Martinez Over Ten Rounds

By Jake Donovan - Alberto “El Topo” Rosas posted his best win in more than five years with a punishing ten-round decision win over Alejandro Martinez in their flyweight bout on the televised undercard of the Latin Fury 10 pay-per-view telecast, aired live from Grand Mayan in Nuevo Vallarta, Nayarit, Mexico.

    Scores were 100-87, 99-92 and 99-91.

The bout served as a perfect example of how the fighters’ won-loss totals don’t always tell the entire story. Martinez (now 16-2-1, 11KO) came in with the much glossier stats, but his lack of big fight experienced showed in their grueling affair, most of which was fought at Rosas’ desired pace.

Rosas (30-5, 25KO) sprinted out to an early lead, clearly taking the first two rounds before running into a little bit of trouble in the third. Martinez was able to buckle down and push around his smaller foe, if only for moments at a time.

Momentum swung back in Rosas’ favor in a competitive fourth, but the flyweight gatekeeper enjoyed his most dominant round of the fight in the fifth. Martinez foolishly tried to match Rosas’ toughness, but wound up eating an elbow and right hand which left him bloody and on the verge of being battered. [details]
