Gaby Peñagarícano, asesor legal del campeón welter de la Organización Mundial de Boxeo, Miguel Cotto, confirmó que se llegó a un acuerdo en principio para que su protegido se mida el 14 de noviembre en el MGM Grand de Las Vegas, Nevada, al filipino Manny Pacquiao pero adelantó que el combate no será por la corona que aún posee el cagüeño .
“Ya hablé con Bob Arum y en principio tenemos un acuerdo. No es cuestión de un número y hay ramificaciones. Hay que redactar el contrato y eso también es objeto de revisiones. Pero no será por el título y sí a 12 asaltos en las 145 libras. Se acordó un ‘catch weight’. Y voy a dialogar de eso con el presidente (de la OMB) Paco Valcarcel”, expresó el letrado.
Explicó que habrá una gira promocional comenzando en septiembre que incluirá varias ciudades de Estados Unidos como Los Angeles y Nueva York sin excluir a Chicago así como Puerto Rico señalando que no se contempla ir a Filipinas.
“Todo cambió en el fin de semana y ahora me enviarán el borrador del contrato. Es una pelea bien importante y discutiremos todos los términos acordados en principio. Esos números son privados”, dijo en torno a la bolsa a ganar y al por ciento de pay per view que devengará Cotto.
