So i was catching up listening to a boxing show called neutral corner here in LA and i came across the interview with M Axboxing Steve Kim
it's on the 6/28 show.
Steve Kim- I have not seen any proof of Floyd Mayweather’s injury. I’ve written this and stand by my words. There were extremely poor ticket sales for July 18 which led to the demise of this event. Richard Schaefer made a comment that they have sold 5.5 million dollars worth of tickets but that is on paper. The reality is for most these big event s unfortunately for the real fans most of those tickets off the pop are given in consignment to the ticket broker, and held by the hotels and the secondary market for Marquez/Mayweather simply did not exist. There were not a lot of tickets out there that the general public bought.
What I have found out in the last couple of days since the Mayweather pull out was that Mayweather was the actual lead promoter of this bout. I was led to believe that it was Golden Boy in association with Mayweather promotion when it was actually the other way around. For the past couple years Mayweather always said he wanted to be his own boss. Part of being a boss is that you have to put your own risk. Several sources said that the only money guaranteed to either fighter in this event as Mayweather Promotion as the lead promoter was Juan Manuel Marquez . JMM and Golden Boy Promotion was guaranteed 4 million dollars. 3.2 to Marquez the rest to Golden Boy for delivering Marquez. Now Mayweather as the promoter and he found out a harsh lesson here in this market place as the promoter he had to incur the cost of 24/7, the marketing, the press tour and anything associated with that event and then after that whatever profit there is including scalping tickets which Mayweather and Al Hayman do engage in they were gonna make their money there but a couple of problems there none of that existed with the secondary market with the ticket and they found out by testing the water that there wasn’t gonna be a demand for this event.
