  • Omar Chavez Speaks Out On Marco Nazareth's Death

Tragedy struck the sport last Saturday in Mexico, when welterweight prospect Omar Chavez stopped Marco Nazareth in four rounds. After the fight was over, Nazareth felt dizzy and then passed out. He was rushed from the ring on a stretcher and taken to the hospital where he laid in a coma until his body began to fail and he passed away on Wednesday morning. [details]

Boxing really needs a more organized way of doing medical checks beforehand. There's a good chance Nazareth may have been roughed up in previous fights and amateur/sparring stuff, everybody deserves a full physical with MRI before fighting.

What boxing needs is regulation.Look at these Chavez people they are fed bums throughout their careers.Boxers need to be matched against boxers of similar abilities, the differences should not be much.I'm not sure these Chavez people have even been challenged at all. They are really using their father's name and making a career of fighting bums. The last time I heard Chavez jr was trying to fight a retired Oscar Delahoya.it is evident that these guys have no desire of fighting people who can hit back and with this attitude we expect them to kill more people.

Thats maybe a little harsh, but you are right about the quality of opponents. How could fighting a guy with a 4-3 record who had been kayoed in his last two benefit Omar's career at a stage where he needs to be stepping up his competition?

Well said, weak opposition could result in this.

I don't know if you all remember a few months ago on fnf teddy atlas talked about this very thing.I can't remember where the show took place but he begged the csac to stop staging mismatches.he applauded one commision for not sanctioning a particular fight involving an undefeated prospect vs a guy with 15 losses who had been knocked out his last 7 fights.this is exactly why mismatches must stop.I hate to say it but Mexico especially has to shape up.I mean they are allowing margarito to fight again.he may never get licences again in the states.these mismatches need to stop & I agree with the poster who said better prefight medicals done...this is sad another death in the best sport in the world.rip Nazareth!

i always thought mismatches happen only in thailand, indonesia and the philippines. i never thought it would happen in mexico.

              another sad day for boxing.

              rest in peace, nazareth.

                This

I don't see why it could not be done, there is no reason at all for not doing a full Physical.

100% correct sir, you would not believe the ridiculous nuthugging that these ****ers get here in Mexico, "the legend continues" bull****, i'm a boxing fan first, and i know that these guys have been fighting a bunch of bums, same as their dad did, it's just ****ing ******.

As for the competition that goes around in here, it's a disgrace, this happened on a televised card, but it's horryfiing what happens on local shows, i've seen some unnecessary beatings that are actually sanctioned by the WBC

                    a business ?

we all know boxing is a business, but sometimes it just goes
                    waaay too far.

an example of something that happens is this...
lose 9 pounds in 2 days, this is very bad for the brain.
these short notices are very bad for the sport.

as far as i know, they rarely do this in mma.
i could be wrong, but it still pisses me off.
