Woah. Did anyone actually see Maccarenelli/Lebedev?

This has NOTHING to do with Haye, either Klitschko, or the big hairy Russian. NOTHING! Just don't bring it up. This is about that fight and those two fighters, nothing about any greater implications. Make that same thread again and again if that is what you care about.

Anyway, I downloaded the fight. It is in a language I don't recognize on a station that puts the letters "cnopt" on the screen. Anyone? It is the shame the UK broadcasters didn't put it on their ppv as it was an entertaining fight while it lasted. Though I guess I can't complain about the free stream I watched over here in the states.

The first round was very odd. Macca (who I find entertaining by the way, which is why I downloaded the fight. I like offensively talented but defensively flawed fighters best.) fought backing up as if he was trying to box, but then he didn't actually ever punch. He looked terrified of being hit, nothing like the aggressor he used to be. Lebedev won the round simply by trying to.

The second round was better. Macca turned some of those left hooks to the body that he throws so well and avoided being hit mostly. He won the round and looked pretty good doing it.

The third round started well for him, but some incoming slipped through and of course it hurt him. He staggered a little and started bleeding. He continued to stagger around a bit like someone who was really drunk, fought back a little, tried to clinch, and then he stepped back to the ropes and got caught with a big right. He came forward to try to clinch and... the ref stopped it.

This was a ridiculously awful stoppage. I mean really, really bad. He was hurt, but come on. I've seen worse ones, I guess, and this was a pretty irrelevant fight in the grand scheme of things, but he never even came close to going down and only got hit clean a few times. Bizarre. You expect that kind of stoppage (though it is still wrong) for the hometown fighter, not the foreigner.

That's a Russian station that covered the fight.

Anyways, first 2 rounds were OK for both fighters, pretty evenly fought but I have no problems with the stoppage in the third, maybe a little early but by that point Maccarinelli had taken quite a few big punches from Lebedev and wasn't really coming back with much and his eye was almost swollen shut.

I thought it was a good stoppage. Macca's face was ****ed up, he was badly hurt and was getting battered around the ring.

LOL at the British announcer "And that may very well be the end of a fabulous career"

This is the UK sky sports version of the fight:

Lebedev is not a bum, he's a good tough fighter and he's undefeated (18-0, 13 KO's). He KTFO Eliseo Castillo (20-2) in 5 rounds and destroyed Maccarinelli in 3 rounds.

I allotted bum an operational definition, meaning unproven prospect.

You're not making sense - that was a necessary stoppage. Maccarinelli was taking a lot of shots, and was hurt too badly to defend himself. Neither the UK nor the Russian commentators thought there was anything wrong with the stoppage.

I thought Lebedev won all three rounds, although Maccarinelli did a bit better in the second by landing a couple of body punches. Nice performance by Lebedev, and good for him - he grew up in severe poverty and hasn't had an easy life.

Actually you guys are right. I rewatched it and while it is still a little quick, it wasn't as bad as it was when I first took it in. He hadn't punched for almost 40 seconds. I didn't notice that somehow on the first way through.
