Anyways, Carlos Palomino was a hell of a fighter, as both an amateur and as a pro. Not the quickest guy out there, but he was a very smart fighter who had very sound boxing fundamentals. He'd work very well off the jab, and was also a very accomplished body puncher, as well. He didn't have huge power, but he was almost impossible to hurt himself. He was pretty strong and he certainly was very tough, as I think the only time he was ever knocked down was in his fight against Roberto Duran, in one of Duran's absolute best performances of his career (I could be wrong about the amount of knockdowns he suffered, as someone else may have knocked him down, but I can't recall from memory). Was never knocked out.
Yeah, Palomino was just a very solid fighter who, in his prime, only lost to two of the best fighters of that generation (Benitez and Duran). He's the type of guy that would fit well into any era of welterweights and would've been a champion in most.
He'd beat Judah with little difficulty, in my opinion.Comment

Palomino was indeed an awesome body puncher. He won his title, taking out John Stracey with a body attack.
His fights with Armando Muniz were classics...one of them in which he won with just a few seconds left in the 15th round.
He was a very good all around fighter...very intelligent. He had this misfortune of being in that divison when it was stacked.
How cool a fight would have Palomino-Cuevas been ?Comment

Palomino and Cuevas would've been a nice unification fight, and going into it, opinions on who would've won might've been split right down the midda'. I'd probably favour Palomino though, as I think Cuevas' only real chance would've been by knockout. But Duran nailed Palomino with pretty much everything he had and couldn't finish him, so I don't know if Cuevas would either (Cuevas hit harder than Duran did at welterweight, but wasn't nearly as accurate). Cuevas could be outboxed though, and I think Palomino had more than enough pure boxing skills to outpoint him in the end.Originally posted by jabsRstiffGood synopsis....
