I've updated my post with a "boxing" translation in local languages which shows the highest search volume for the year 2004 to 2009.

This seems to be from Google searches only...

In a number of countries, Google is pretty far down the list, ie. Russia has Yandex & Rambler as their main search engines - Google is a distant third.

Imagine it is the same in many other countries, so you'll get a pretty distorted picture from this...

Google is the leading search engine in the world. It is by far used by more people than any other.

Google is so dominant that only few countries is not conquered by it - As you pointed out Russia is one of the few with Yandex having a 49 percent share of the Russian market, but even here Google is 2nd with 22 percent.

In China, the local search engine Baidu controls 62 percent of the market. Even here Google has 20 percent of the market share. The most popular portal in China is SINA.com. SINA has a search engine called iAsk.com that is powered by Google.

In Europe, Google's market share goes as high as 90%

Statistically, you can't get any better than getting a worldwide population sample than with Google.

Intresting that Pinoys never put Cotto as one of the popular searches??? Maybe this is why they dismiss him as a hell of a fight.

Search volume tend to go up before, during and after a boxing match. Interest peaks during the fight. This tend to reflect because of efforts by promotions companies such as 24/7, press conferences, etc.
