At a Press conference today at Celtic Manor in Newport, Wales a joint venture was announced between Joe Calzaghe Enterprises Ltd. and Triple S Sports and Entertainment Group, as both companies entered the boxing promotions arena. Calzaghe Promotions, which aims to become a heavyweight promotions company not just in the UK but throughout Europe, will hold its first fight bill at Newport Leisure Centre on 21 August 2009 with its 'The Boys are Back in Town' promotion featuring three of Calzaghe Promotions' contracted fighters, Gavin Rees, Bradley Pryce and Tony Docherty.
Calzaghe Promotions has also reached an agreement with Enzo Calzaghe and Newbridge Boxing Club for Enzo Calzaghe to train and manage its contracted boxers. Joe Calzaghe said of his new venture: "Calzaghe Promotions is dedicated to providing boxers with the right opportunities, to be managed professionally and caringly and to provide training that allows them to reach their full potential.."
"The company is already in discussions with several other fighters to extend its portfolio of fighters and also other promoters both at home and abroad to enter in to possible joint promotional agreements for the future," added Paul Stretford, Managing Director of Triple S Sports and Entertainment Group.
The bill for the 21 August 2009 includes:
Gavin Rees v Damian Owen (Lightweight)
Bradley Pryce v Michael Monaghan (Light Middleweight)
