Is he past his prime? Or is this the perfect time for him to return. My guess is he eats up half the upper tier, but runs into trouble with the top of the division. Gatekeeper or real deal?
The Bazooka is back? Whats your take on his comeback.

Yes, he's past his peak.
He peaked in '96. He was a damn fierce bastard back then, but then softened as soon as he got his first 500k payday.
He has enough raw abilty to get SOMEWHERE in the sport....but he'll fail miserably against the elite.
Ike Quartey rates as one of my biggest disappointments in the sport. -
Don't know i haven't seen him fight but i know his last fight was at 160 i think he could be a force at 154, but not 160 taylor, bernard, trinidad are all to big to strong and powerfull for him quartey is only 5'8. it would be even better if he could return at 147. but i don't think he can make 147 anymore.Originally posted by GattiFanIs he past his prime? He's obviously past his prime but i think the 4 year break after his two defeats againts oscar and vargas might have done him some good. His body is rested and he had time to get his head straight. If he takes this comeback serious and trains hard I think he'll be a true contender. Maybe never a Champion again but a Contender.Originally posted by GattiFanIs he past his prime? I am reminded of the fight with Oba Carr, one of the worst refereeing jobs in boxing history. He was so strong, he was almost impossible to outbox. The Vince Phillips fight was another impressive performance. He took everything the guy had and stopped him in the next round. Quartey was special.Comment

Hasn't really done **** for **** yet, has he? Really, if he's going to make a comeback, he might as well get the ball rolling. One win against a fighter with a barely winning record is hardly indicative of retention of championship skills and heart, is it?Comment

His first 500k payday was against Phillips, & he looked as good as anyone 've ever seen. Talk about an eye-opening performance.
I became a huge Quartey fan after that.
I was disappointed in his fight with Carr, however.
Trinidad, aside from one-punch, thoroughly detsroyed Carr.....& I thought Quartey was gonna do even better. He didn't.
He was still impressive against carr, but not as impressive as he should have been.Comment

A tune up is essential after a 5 year lay off. It wouldn't have been wise for him to jump in there immediately with Trinidad or Hopkins.Originally posted by whdempseyHasn't really done **** for **** yet, has he?
