Floyd Mayweather Jr. is preparing for a boxing match that will compete head-to-head against UFC 103 on September 19.
In the CBS Sports interview embedded below, Mayweather makes several derogatory comments about the sport of MMA. Among them, he insinuates that white men couldn’t compete in boxing, so they had to go start something new.
What Mayweather fails to realize is that MMA champions are a much more diverse group than the current landscape of major boxing’s champions.
In the UFC alone, there are champions from three different countries. When you take some of the other major organizations into account such as Strikeforce and Affliction, the list continues to grow. And if we include the promotions based outside the United States, the numbers look even better in MMA’s favor.
It’s obvious Mayweather is attacking MMA because his pay per view match will be competing directly against the UFC event. He’s banking on an ignorant fan base to make his payday as lucrative as possible.
