    had my first fight tonight

i have been boxing for about 6 weeks now and i had my first fight tonight. i have sparred quite a bit so i thought i was ready. the guy i fought was fighting his first fight and weighed in the same as me (~215lbs, i am trying to eventually get to 201) so i thought it was a good matchup. the only unfortunate thing going in was that i have had a sinus infection the past few days after fracturing my nose sparring a week and a half ago.

anyways, on to the fight. i "lost" a minute and a half into the first round. the guy i fought was some guy in his mid 30's that was not a part of any club. just some guy off the street. this was a "state games" deal so anybody could register, just had to join usa boxing and whatnot. anyways i was trying to stay smart but this guy was just going bat**** crazy. i never got hit in the face once and he only hit my head a couple of times for all his flurries of wild hooks that he threw. i have never sparred anyone doing that so i was unaccustomed. when he would start throwing his hooks at me he would be pushing me at the same time. i tried keeping my jab out there to keep him at a bit of a distance but it didnt really work. looking back i should have just tried to pull myself into him but i cant do anything about that now.

what ended the fight was him pushing me with an outstretched left hand into the ropes, this was not an accidentally push he basically bumrushed me back 10 feet, he pushed me hard enough into the ropes that my left foot was halfway off the ring and i was about to fall. i turned away from him in order to keep from falling off the ring and he nailed me with a right in the back of the head, i was dazed real good and the doctor stopped the fight. so in summary the guy pushed me into the ropes hard enough to spin me a bit and when i tried to get up he nailed me in the back of the head. they gave him the win. in my inexperienced eyes i would have called it a no contest but that is coming from the loser. i was under the impression that pushing like that and hitting the back of the head was illegal but oh well.

i am kind of disappointed that it ended like that but it was still a good experience to get my first fight. i have it on video too and i just watched it, it is blatantly obvious what happened to end the fight. i may post the video when i get it onto my computer.

sorry for the long thread, i just had an exciting day and wanted to share. and maybe hear some other peoples' first fight experiences

Well, if you are just starting you are not going to have the best referees or anything so sadly crap like that will probably happen. I wish you well. Don't let that dissuade you from continuing, just use it as a learning experience and try to train for such things. Research even potential opponents and try to train for them.

yeah it was a good learning experience and i am definitely going to keep training. the thing that sucks the most though is i probably have a concussion so i will have to take at least a couple weeks off from sparring and stuff like that. oh well.

Man, cong****, of course not for the lost (what means nothing right now), you fought with 6 weeks of experience, for my first fight I had like 6 months going to the gym. Learn for that experience and good luck.

                The lost art of clinching.......

When the guy your fighting is acting like a wild man swingn like a girl...you have to keep your cool.

                CLINCH..........

Get seperated keep him at bay with a good jab....and just circle his ass....

Hell calm that wild **** down after he eats enough str8 jabs...

But you have to clinch bro...clinching doesnt make you weak it makes you smart.
