There is cool clip of supermiddleweight contender Danny Green sparring with Toney. They went toe-to-toe for 7 rounds when Green was visiting Wild Card Gym few weeks ago. The first round is available for download now. In my opinion Green handled himself very well, Toney hit him with some hard shots but he didnt take backward step.
Danny´s comments on sparring session:
"I told Freddie Roach to ring James Toney and tell him if he doesn't turn up tomorrow, 'I'm going to turn his lights out', as a joke. He came down the next day and he didn't see the funny side to it. He went mad,He walked past me, James Toney at 250lbs and gave me a look that would kill and I just pissed myself laughing. It didn't set the tone for a very friendly sparring session. We start sparring and he is talking the whole time we sparred. He could talk the leg off of an iron chair. He could talk underwater. He is James Toney, a great, great fighter. I've always had a world of respect for the way that he fights. I've really loved his style and he is a very sharp boxer. Even at 250lbs he is still very slippery and I learnt a hell of a lot from the guy. It was a great sparring session. I didn't take a backward step for seven rounds and we went toe to toe. I've got the footage right here on tape. I'm very proud of the way I handled myself, took his best shots, soaked them up and gave back way more than I took. I wasn't being disrespectful before we sparred. I was just having a bit of fun and for me, it was one of my favourite sparring sessions ever."
Toney's comments on sparring session:
"Danny Green? He came in one day last week. I was in the office with Dan doing something that was very important for me to do. I got my own obligations first. They assumed I was scared to come out and box with him. So I came back the next day and if you were there you would see the blood that was left behind. So he was nothing special. He was nothing at all. I sent him and all those Aussie *******s back to Australia. Bleeding and blue. He tried to go ten but he left out in six. It was nothing spectacular. He didn't do nothing to me. Nothing at all. So we can dismiss the myth that he did something to me. He didn't do a damn thing to James Toney. They got what they didn't want and I sent their asses out of there. They lucky they left with their health intact."
