Is it a must for boxing to include knee pads as a standard protective equipment?

Boxers must be protected to make sure their health is not compromised during a bout. Knee pads will only be used by boxers who have no ability at all to defend themselves when confronted with a superior opponents. As a concern boxing fan I am worried about the future of boxers with mediocre boxing abilities.

Let us discuss the proposal for the benefit of emotional fanatics.

To me knee pads means you know you're going down.

The problem is some boxers are in denial of their mediocre abilities and tend to prove but to no avail.

Cotto was rumoured to be using some in sparring to practice which leg to go down on is best. His left was a bit weaker so he is using his right knee to go down against pac in the 2nd.

Good point, somebody needs to advice him to make sure to determine which knee needs a double padded knee pads to protect his future in boxing. I'm concern...seriously...

I could have sworn I saw a fight this past week where a fighter was wearing what looked to be soccer shin pads. You could see them poking out from the top of his high socks.

I watched a lot of fights in the past week and I can't remember which one it was though

This is not funny, as a boxing fan I'm truly concern about boxers that tends to use their knee instead of their willingness to fight when confronted with superior opponent.
