just like they are doing with the 168lb division.
After the tournys have completed the winner should be named THEE champ of that division and the various ABC belts shouldn't be used anymore. Thats just my opinion.
This way all the top fighters of every division fight in this type of tourny (including all title holders) and in the end a single champ will be crowned and all other belts should be erased from boxing.
having 4 title holders per division (sometimes less...like in terms of the lightweights; etc) brings lots of confusion to casual fans and even to general boxing fans.
we always complain about not having a singular champion in each division well with tournys like this one at 168 it provides the perfect chance to do so.
Whats the point of this tourny if at the end one person holds all the ABC titles? over time they will be taken from them (either through losses, vacancy, or retirement; etc.) and they will be split up again amoung the top 4 fighters of 168. Which would require more tourny's etc.
my vote is do this will all the weight classes and create a single champ for each division. that will also get rid of the PPV overload that's been going on in boxing where you have sometimes as many as 3 or so PPV events in a month. why? because there are a ton of champs in each division that make claims to being ppv worthy simply because of a title they hold (whether or not they are THEE champ of the division)
and we the boxing fans get suckered (or even sometimes forced) into buying another PPV...usually one that doesnt deliever the $50 worth of action we payed for.
i think banning the numerous titles and having one champ for each division will do a lot for the sport and even help it to reclaim its old glory days where selling out a baseball or football arena for a fight wasnt unheard of.
if a fight like oscar v. floyd happened in those glory days the hype it would have generated could have easily made it worthy of being held at a ball park and it would have sold out.
now-a-days it barely sells out a las vegas arena. and 1 million buys is a rarity.
anyone agree?
